Dear Representative,

On behalf of the Alliance for Worker Freedom (AWF), an organization dedicated to preserving a free market and protecting worker-freedom, as well as millions of rank-and-file hardworking Americans, I am writing to thank you for removing several dangerous and irresponsible labor measures from the recently passed House Omnibus spending bill.

Specifically, removing a rider that would have prevented the implementation and use of the LM-30 conflict of interest reporting form, issued by the Office of Labor Management Standards, in accordance with the Labor Management Reporting and Disclosure Act of 1959, shows your resolve to hold unions accountable and protect the rank-and-file union members. Additionally, by striking provisions such as H.R. 980, the so-called “Public Safety Employer-Employee Cooperation Act,” which allows the federal government to “strong-arm” states by forcing them to engage in collective bargaining, shows that you uphold and respect the separation of powers that remain the crux of our federalist system.

On the heels of a legislative season packed with proposals that clearly favor one group of workers over another and command-and-control policies that skew the market in favor of Big Labor, striking these hindrances is a step in the right direction. However there is much more that needs to be accomplished.

It is imperative that you commit to passing legislation which supports unregulated labor markets and resolve to ensure ¬that Big Labor special interests do not take precedent over ensuring worker freedom.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions regarding labor related issues or to discuss ways in which proper legislation can help the workers in your state receive fair and equity treatment while ensuring their freedom remains protected.

Sincerely,

Brian M Johnson,
Director of Policy
