Dear Representative:

On behalf of the Alliance for Worker Freedom (AWF), and millions of average rank-and-file workers across America, I am urging you to support and co-sponsor the “Green Jobs Improvement Act” to be offered by Rep. John Kline (R-MN).

The recently passed “Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007”, H.R. 6, contained a number of provisions which directly interfered with the free market. Among those, the “Green Jobs Act” only provides funding to organizations that partner with organized labor unions. In so doing, this Act defines the “green” labor market in favor of Big Labor, slanting the playing field toward a group that only comprises 12.1 percent of the workforce as of 2007.

Rep. Kline’s “Green Jobs Improvement Act” corrects this error. By requiring the removal of the mandated partnership, this Act will create competition between union and non-union labor while promoting “green” projects.

Open and honest competition among labor markets is the cornerstone to an effective and efficient economic climate. Union labor should not be given legislative “kick-backs” by their friends in Congress as the original H.R. 6 mandated.

With private sector unionization falling since 1973, and public sector union numbers on the decline since 1994, the mandated provisions contained within H.R. 6 should be viewed as nothing more than a “gift” to a dying movement.

I am urging you to support and co-sponsor the “Green Jobs Improvement Act” to be introduced by Rep. John Kline (R-MN), as it will correct the distorting mandates in H.R. 6 and give merit-shop companies the chance to compete in an open and free market.

Sincerely,

Brian M Johnson, MPA
