AWF Welcomes Rep. Kline (R-Minn.) as New Defender of Worker Freedom

Rep. Kline chosen Ranking Republican on House Education & Labor Committee

WASHINGTON, D.C. —  Today, the Alliance for Worker Freedom (AWF), a national worker’s rights organization congratulates Rep. Kline (R-Minn.) on being selected as ranking member of the Education and Labor Committee.  The race came down between Rep. Cathy McMorris-Rodgers (R-Wash.), Rep. John Kline (R-Minn.), and Rep. Joe Wilson (R-S.C.)

The 28-member Steering Committee elected Rep. Kline, after the Committee’s previous ranking member, Rep. McKeon (R-Calif.) left for the Ranking Member position on the U.S. House Armed Services Committee.

“I am very pleased with this decision and confident that Kline will stand for workers rights and against the wishes of special interest groups – including organized labor,”
said Brian M. Johnson, executive director of the Alliance for Worker Freedom. “With the continued attack on worker freedom by the Left; including pushing the Employee Free Choice Act, the RESPECT Act, and assaults on independent contractors, Kline’s determined leadership is needed now more than ever.”

Senior committee members Reps. Tom Petri (R-Wis.), Mark Souder (R-Ind.), Judy Biggert (R-Ill.) and Mike Castle (R-Del.) had all expressed interest in taking on the role as ranking member.  However, the four seasoned members later withdrew.

I like Kline enough...but Souder would have been my pick.
