California: Complaint Filled Against Union

According to KGET.com:

A carpenter's union in Bakersfield is the target of a formal complaint filed with the State of California.

The union is under fire from a group that represents local builders.

You're probably familiar with the tactics employed by the union.

They're the ones behind those "Shame on You" signs you see people holding outside various businesses.

The union goes after those businesses for not hiring union workers and paying construction crews prevailing wage.

Now the union is under fire.

For years the Bakersfield Chapter of the Associated Builders and Contractors or ABC said it has tolerated persistent efforts by local union 1506, a
Los Angeles based carpenters union.

ABC said local 1506 has repeatedly relied on strong arm tactics to coerce contractors from hiring non-union labor.

ABC has said it has had enough.

Central Valley president of the ABC said the group has filed a formal complaint with the National Labor Review Board.

The group wants an investigation of intimidation that they said has soured the normally good work environment in Bakersfield.

Laura Barnes from the Association of Builders and Contractors said, "There was recent incident in which a labor union representative from the Los Angeles carpenter's union actually physically assaulted a merit shop contractor's employee."...click to continue.
