California: Defying court order, UC labor union strike continues

According to the LA Business:

University of California service employees were set to continue their strike for a second day Tuesday at campuses and medical centers across the state despite a court order calling off the action, according to the labor union that represents them.

Thousands of workers walked off the job Monday at campuses including Davis, Sacramento, Berkeley, San Francisco, and Los Angeles, according to William Schlitz, a spokesman for the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Local No. 3299.

"The bargaining team has authorized a five-day strike," Schlitz said. "We will re-evaluate on Friday." The union represents 8,000 service workers and 11,000 patient care workers, some who also participated in the action although they do not belong to the same bargaining unit....click to continue.
