California: Vallejo, Labor Unions Reach Tentative Pact; Could Head Off Bankruptcy

According to the Mercury News:

An 11th hour deal was struck Thursday between Vallejo and its public safety unions that could head off bankruptcy.

Mayor Osby Davis told an overflow crowd at City Hall on Thursday night that details of the proposed agreement will be available in a staff report today. He said it calls for significant concessions from public safety employees, but does not solve all the city's fiscal woes.

"It's a framework for a long-term solution, but not an agreement which solves the problem in totality," Davis said.

Public safety attorney Alan Davis, meanwhile, said the draft accord calls for major "economic concessions" from police and fire employees, but he would not be more specific...click to continue
