Connecticut: Dems schedule vote on minimum wage hike

According to the Connecticut Post:

HARTFORD — Majority Democrats worked until the wee hours Thursday to approve ethics reforms and gas and fuel oil relief, while extending a municipal tax on real-estate transfers.

But they're planning to come back again on June 23 and try to override Gov. M. Jodi Rell's recent veto of legislation that would raise the minimum wage to $8.25 an hour by Jan. 1, 2010.

Rell rejected the wage bill, which passed both the House and Senate by veto-proof margins, on May 27.

"It's our intention to try to override the governor's veto of the minimum wage bill," Senate President Donald E. Williams Jr., D-Brooklyn, told reporters. "It's very important for working Connecticut residents, especially those folks working right at the margins, given these tough times."

Speaker of the House James A. Amann wasn't so sure. He said Thursday the House will attempt an override only if enough members of the House majority can get to the Capitol that day from planned vacations and other commitments.... click to continue.
