The Center for Worker Freedom (CWF) and Americans for Tax Reform (ATR) support H.R 1431 and H.R. 1432, sponsored by Rep. Earl Carter (R-GA).

These bills would hold unions accountable to the same identity theft and stalking laws as every other American by amending the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA) and Railway Labor Act (RLA).

CWF, ATR and allied organizations are signing onto a coalition letter that highlights a powerful example of a union abusing its exemption from state identity-theft laws:

“…after three-dozen North Carolina AT& T workers opted-out of the Communications Workers of America Local 3602 in 2007, the union president retaliated by posting their names and Social Security numbers on a public bulletin board.

These workers should have been protected by state identity theft law, but the union successfully argued in court that its actions were protected by the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA).”

Further, CWF’s Matt Patterson expanded on the necessity for H.R. 1431 and H.R. 1432 in his recent Forbes column, where he compared unions to “thugee,” or organized bands of robbers and thieves that existed in India for hundreds of years:

‘“In contemporary America, we have our own brand of ‘thugee…’ Unless and until the NLRA is amended, our thugs will continue to be licensed by the American government in the 21st Century.’

CWF and ATR urge every member of Congress to support these much needed and long overdue reforms.
