Dear Representatives Bill Young and Don Young:

In light of recent feedback concerning the Alliance for Worker Freedom’s Congressional award ceremony, I would like to take this opportunity to clarify some confusion regarding your scores and award status.

The Alliance for Worker Freedom, founded in 2003 to combat anti-worker legislation and promote a free and open labor market, has been awarding members with our “Guardian of Worker Freedom” award based on their key votes in each Congressional session since 2004.

Based on votes in the 1st Session of the 110th Congress, Rep. Don Young (R-AK) did not receive a “Guardian of Worker Freedom” award, receiving a score of 18.18%.

Representative Bill Young (R-FL) did receive a “Guardian of Worker Freedom” award with a score of 81.82%.

The scores were based on how members voted on the Public Safety Employer-Employee Cooperation Act, several Davis-Bacon and prevailing wage votes, the Employee Free Choice Act (commonly referred to as “EFCA” or “Card Check”), the Fair Minimum Wage Act, OLMS funding, and other OSHA and workplace regulatory issues.

Thank you and congratulations Rep. Bill Young (R-FL).   AWF regrets any confusion.

Sincerely,

Brian M Johnson, MPA
