Washington, D.C. — The Alliance for Worker Freedom condemns job killing legislation, supported by President Obama, the Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA) and the House-passed Cap-and-Trade bill. If passed, both bills will result in massive layoffs due to the costs they impose on businesses and tax increases brought to every American family. Job losses since Obama has taken office are as follows:

Mar:      652,000
Apr:      519,000
May:     303,000
June:    463,000
July:     304,000
Aug:     201,000 (preliminary)
Sept:    263,000 (preliminary)
Total:     2,705,000

“Remember, these job losses occurred after the Democrat-passed “stimulus bill” was enacted, legislation that was sold to the American public as a panacea to our economic woes,” said Brian Johnson, Executive Director of the Alliance for Worker Freedom.

“The key to an economic recovery is job creation. Both Cap-and-Trade bills, Waxman-Markey and Boxer-Kerry, tax businesses draining employers of capitol and forcing layoffs. Similarly, the falsely-named Employee Free Choice Act will increase unionization rates, through coercive means, driving up overhead costs for companies, forcing employers to let workers go. Either bill would prove disastrous to our fragile economy,” Johnson concluded.
