Michigan: Union President Voted Out of Office
According to the Dayton Business Journal:
A new president and shop chairman will lead the unionized workforce at the General Motors Corp.'s Moraine assembly plant next year.
Both IUE-CWA Local 798 President Brenda Hayden and Mike Hall, shop chairman, lost in weekend elections. John Harlow, who now serves as first shift committeeman in the chassis department, will replace Hall in January.
The union must hold a run-off election in November to determine who will replace Hayden. Neither of her opponents, Gaylen Turner or Mike Phillips, won by the majority required to secure the victory.
The union's constitution requires the winner of an election with three or more candidates to win by 50 percent plus one vote.
