Cosponsor H.R. 3309 and Save American Jobs

On behalf of the Alliance for Worker Freedom (AWF), I urge you to cosponsor H.R. 3309, introduced by Rep. Olson (R-TX) which will delay the third and final stage of the federal minimum wage increase until next year.

Minimum wage laws interfere with free market principles and increase unemployment. Since Democrats passed minimum wage laws in 2007:

•    The minimum wage rose to $7.25 - a 40.8% increase
•    Unemployment has risen 106.5%
•    The unemployment rate increased from 4.6% to 9.5%
•    31 states were forced to raise their minimum wage laws
•    Since December 2007, 7.2 million Americans lost their jobs
•    The unemployment rate for workers without a high school degree rose to 15.5%
•    The unemployment rate for African-American teens rose to 37.9%
•    467,000 jobs were lost last month in June
•    A 10% increase in the minimum wage is associated with a 1% employment decrease in retail and small business employment

Raising the minimum wage does nothing to address unemployment rates, the underlying problem facing the American economy. Policies should encourage growth, not hurt it.

I hope you will join Congressman Pete Olson and cosponsor this bill. Your support will save jobs and help America bounce back from its current economic crisis.
