Minnesota: Mankato Considers Prevailing Wage

According to the Mankato Free Press:

Mankato is considering an ordinance that would require all contractors on city projects to pay their workers the “prevailing wage” — essentially the pay that the majority of similar workers in the area earn.

Mandating a prevailing wage prevents out-of-state companies that underpay their employees from bidding lower and taking local jobs, said Jon Nowak, business representative organizer for Mankato’s Carpenters Local 464.

“It keeps the jobs here local,” he said. “I would be fightin’ for this if I wasn’t a business rep. It just makes sense.”
