In the wake of the United Auto Workers union’s failed attempts to unionize the Volkswagen plant in Chattanooga, many people believe the UAW has turned their attention to Vance, Alabama, home to the Mercedes-Benz plant.

However, Alabamians need to be aware that the UAW is making moves outside of Vance. This time they have called for a union vote at the Renosol Plant in Selma, Alabama for June 19^th-20^th .

“Let me say this to our enemies,” Patta thundered. “We will go on... We will not be beaten!”  

A German labor leader threatened Volkswagen's Chattanooga workers at the United Auto Workers' (UAW) convention in Detroit last week.

Frank Patta, general secretary of Volkswagen’s Global Group Works Council, told the assembled union delegates that the UAW will prevail eventually in Chattanooga:

Last February, though, VW employees rejected the union in a secret-ballot vote, 712-626. Now comes more bad news for UAW bosses: Their supporters in Alabama are telling them to go back to Detroit.

Dennis Williams has been elected as the new president for the United Auto Workers (UAW). Williams, who previously served as the secretary-treasurer for the UAW, was elected June 4^th at the union’s 36th Constitutional Convention in Detroit.

This week Detroit hosts the 36^th Constitutional Convention for the United Auto Workers (UAW). Delegates at the Convention will elect a new President at the end of the week, as current President Bob King’s term expires. They will pass resolutions, elect people to new posts such as Vice President and so- forth. Tuesday June 3^rd, delegates even raised UAW dues for first time in 47 years.

As the United Auto Workers (UAW) union attempts to move on from their humiliating loss at Volkswagen in February, they had set their sights on Vance Alabama, home to the Mercedes plant.

The UAW has spent almost two and a half years trying to organize this plant but has yet to call a vote. Now, pro-union employees are throwing a major road block in front of the UAW: they want the union to back down.

On May 21^st, more than 1500 McDonald’s employees and pro-union members met in Chicago to hold a rally in protest of a raise in the minimum wage. This rally happened one day before shareholders at McDonalds voted on executive salaries.
