Roy Exum’s recent Chattanoogan.com column highlights the latest chapter of the United Auto Workers (UAW) at the NTN-Bower Corporation in Hamilton, Alabama.  After a series of elections – all of which were declared invalid – the workers there were finally able to decertify the UAW from their workplace.

In his column, Exum notes that other auto plant workers in the south should be alarmed at the UAW’s desperation to stay in Hamilton.  The union is frantically trying “to organize before this summer’s pivotal meetings with the ‘Big Three’ automakers in Detroit.”

For example, the UAW has been refusing to take “no” as an answer from workers at Volkswagen, Chattanooga.  A year after its rejection on Valentine’s Day in 2014, the UAW is still around disguised as the Local 42.

Exum applauds a recent, hilarious Washington Times editorial called “The Chattanooga Boo-Hoo,” which explains these recent labor-related developments at Volkswagen by comparing the UAW to a spurred suitor.

The Center for Worker Freedom’s Matt Patterson’s quote in the Washington Times editorial was noted by Exum:

“Then came the zinger: The editorial explained that, under federal law neither group ‘can bargain, they can’t negotiate wages, hours or working conditions. ‘So what will ACE be discussing with management that is of ‘general interest’ to its members?,’ asks Matt Patterson, the executive director of the Center for Worker Freedom. “University of Tennessee football? Men’s fashions? And what does Local 42 get for making it to the top-tier threshold? They get to meet Volkswagen’s human resources representatives twice a month.’”
